Band 7+: Telling the truth at all times is not essential. On some occasions it is necessary to tell lies, and it is wrong to tell the truth.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is often argued whether telling the truth all the time is necessary. Some people believe that sometimes, telling lies is significantly more crucial than telling the truth. While I acknowledge the importance of telling the truth, I believe that there are some conditions where it is imperative to tell lies, particularly when there are severe consequences if the truth comes out.

On the one hand, telling the truth is one of the most important foundations to build trust between two or more people, helping to establish closer connections. Once tainted with lies, trust will not be easy to repair, thus, making it the most powerful communication tool in the world. For instance, honesty in the business world is vital as it helps establish connections that result in business partnerships. Furthermore, communicating the truth allows people to get a deeper understanding of information, enabling them to focus on the context and solve the real problem.

On the other hand, telling lies becomes crucial when there is a risk to the safety of an individual or many people if the truth is told, especially for a greater good or a higher moral purpose. For instance, protecting national secrets is non-negotiable if there is a huge possibility of collective danger if the truth comes out. Another instance is keeping bad news from individuals who are prone to heart attacks is necessary when there is a risk of fatality.

In conclusion, while I acknowledge the importance of telling the truth in terms of building trust and respect, I believe that telling lies becomes crucial when there are severe consequences that may result from revealing the truth, especially when it can cause harm to individuals. Therefore, people must meticulously assess whether certain information is better to be told or to be kept.
