The given statement receives my concurrence. According to the Health Index, the average life expectancy of humans is projected to decrease to approximately 60 years from the previous 75.6 years. In my view, this decline is attributed to factors such as climate change, dietary patterns, and various other determinants. In ancient times, our predecessors enjoyed a life expectancy of around 90 years due to their robust immune systems and their ability to resist diseases.
For instance, my great grandfather lived to the age of 108 before passing away. His remarkable longevity was largely owing to his resilience against illnesses. Their diet, which included a balance of proteins, carbohydrates, and fats, played a pivotal role in fortifying their bodies. Despite not having a bulky physique, their exceptional resistance must not be overlooked.
In contrast, the contemporary generation’s dietary habits predominantly consist of high carbohydrate consumption rather than adequate protein intake. Furthermore, the prevalence of technology and smartphones has led to a sedentary lifestyle, with individuals becoming increasingly reliant on screens and less inclined to engage in physical activity. In my opinion, present-day society has neglected its physical well-being. This phenomenon is not confined to adults but also extends to children who are becoming increasingly engrossed in materialistic comforts.
Hence, it is plausible to speculate that life expectancy may further decline in the future. Beyond dietary habits, the intensifying global competition has also led to a surge in mental health issues, which can significantly impact an individual’s quality of life. Therefore, I believe that the authorities should take proactive measures to address mental health challenges and provide the necessary support to mitigate this issue.
