In contemporary society, some individuals consider that the pros of the spread of English as an international language will continue to overshadow its cons. I am an ardent proponent of this notion for two predominant reasons, as follows.
Primarily, gaining a deeper insight into English is a good way to remove language barrier. This is anchored in the fact that English is the most popular language around the world, meaning that if we develop English skills, we can communicate with foreigners without language barrier. Consequently, not only does this help us to interact with each other easily, but it also strengthens the bond as well as bridges the gap among many ethnics. A prime example of this is a study by the University of Amsterdam which indicated that in Sunshine City, around three quarters of citizens are competent in using English, paving the way for them to connect with international visitors and acting as a catalyst for living and working aboard. Thus, gaining a better understanding into English is instrumental in removing language barrier.
Furthermore, enhancing job prospects is another merit from getting deeper into English. That is to say, there are many mainstream industries related to English; therefore, when we hone our English skills like listening, speaking, reading or writing, it can open up some avenues for lucrative jobs. As a result, we can gain a high salary as well as a stable career, leading to the significant improvement of living standard. For instance, a survey conducted by the University of Society claimed that in Shoreline Town, the citizens who were proficient in using English had a better quality of life than others who did not use this international language because not only does English enhance their chances for employment but it helps them meet essential life demands. Hence, gaining a better understanding of English plays a crucial role in improving job prospects.
In conclusion, some proponents still believe that the benefits of the spread of English as an global language will continue to outweigh its drawbacks. I profoundly agree with this notion because being competent in English is a good way to get rid of language barrier as well as provide job opportunities for residents.
