The growing use of English as an international language can eliminate language barriers and broaden educational opportunities. While it can lead to loss of cultural identity, I believe that its advantages will continue to outweigh its drawbacks, as it can bring easier global communication and give a chance to study at well-known universities.
On the one hand, the increasing popularity of English has its own drawbacks. First of all, the more we use English, the more it will lead to disappearance of traditional values, as younger generations may lose interest in their native language and traditions. For example, people may start to dress, eat or adopt cultural behaviours of people from abroad. As a result, peoples may forget their native language and cultural heritage.
On the other hand, despite this disadvantages, the global spread of English has several advantages. The main benefit is that it reduce communication difficulties. For instance, people would not need to spend money on interpreter while travelling abroad. Another important advantage is that individuals will have a greater opportunity to study at prestigious universities. People just have to concentrate on another subjects such as math and history, instead of learning new language. Furthermore, they will be able to get better qualifications, improve their future career prospects and work abroad with high salary.
In conclusion, although the growing popularity of English has some drawbacks, I think its benefits will continue to outweigh its disadvantages, as it can make international communication easier and give greater educational opportunities for new generation.
