It is widely argued that the positive aspects will continue to overshadow the negative aspects of the spread of English as a universal language. I totally agree with this sentiment because the global recongnition of this language allows significant communication and access to world-wide knowledge and information.
One major reason for my agreement is that, English acts as a crucial factor for an effective communication. This simply means that the English language enables people to interact with a wide range of people as they will know a common language excluding their mother tongue. For instance, it is almost impossible for a japanese and nepalese person to talk to each other using their own respective language, so if both knows a common widely used language, then that common means of communication acts a bridge between the both individuals to communicate. Therefore, english language plays a pivotal role in solving a language barrier between two different medium of communication apart from english.
Another important reason is that this language provides an access to a substantial amount of knowledge and informations. In other words, English is a language that is used for both educational and informative purposes, so people are most likely to retrieve the most out of many topics. International news channels can be considered an example. These channels provide their data and highlights of daily news mostly in the English language. As a result, more people all over the world can understand the context of what is going in foreign countries.
Some people may argue that the spread of English can diminish the use of native languages among native speakers. However, this is not convincing because english is not a language that people primarily use to communicate with the people of their own country but is used to have an international level communication skills.
In conclusion, I strongly agree that the benefits of the circulation of English will definetely outweigh its drawbacks. Therefore, we should focus on promoting the English language to allow general public to gain the most merits from it.
