It is often argued that providing free public transportation 24 hours a day, seven days a week is the most effective solution to traffic congestion in cities. This essay will discuss why the disadvantages outweigh the advantages and why I think that this idea is impossible to realize.
The idea of making public transport work all the time and be free for the population has a lot of advantages. One of the main pros is that it is very convenient for people, and it saves a lot of time. This is because transport will work all the time and it will be free, so it provides people with comfort. Imagine transport that works all the time without any fees. Therefore, it will be beneficial for people’s comfort and provide financial support for them.
On the other hand, this may create problems for the government. Firstly, public transport needs regular maintenance. If buses and trains work all day and night, they may break down more often. Secondly, it is a huge problem for government finances. For instance, they should pay regularly for drivers, fuel, electricity, and all transport-related expenses. That requires a huge amount of money. Thirdly, I think it is not completely safe. More vehicles operating all the time may increase the risk of accidents and cause even more traffic congestion. What if a vehicle suddenly breaks down on the road? That could be dangerous. That is why I think it is impossible to realize, at least in the next 80 years.
In conclusion, although free public transportation operating 24 hours a day and providing convenience and financial benefits for citizens has some advantages, its disadvantages are far more significant. Therefore, I believe that this solution is not an effective way to address traffic congestion in cities.
