It is true that the best way for governments to solve traffic congestion is often considered to be providing free public transport around the clock. From my perspective, I strongly agree with this statement as it can bring several benefits to the community.
First, offering free transport 24 hours a day is very convenient. With more people choosing buses and trains instead of private vehicles, traffic congestion would be greatly reduced, allowing commuters to travel faster and more smoothly. For instance, in many neighborhoods and cities, residents choose to use public transport such as trams, trains or buses, and statistics show that the rate of traffic congestion decreases sharply. In addition, fewer vehicles on the road can also limit traffic accidents. When there are fewer cars and motorbikes on the road, the roads will be less crowded, so vehicles can travel easily, making the risk of accidents lower.
Next, this policy would support communities, especially low-income people or those with limited income. Free public transport 24 hours a day would allow them to access jobs, education, and healthcare services without financial pressure. This will contribute to the development of individuals in the future. Finally, with services operating 24 hours a day and 7 days a week, citizens can have a flexible timetable for travelling, even on the weekend. For example, on Sunday in Vietnam, many parents take their children for outdoor activities or travel, and most of them choose to travel by public transport instead of private vehicles. With this policy, people can enjoy their weekends effectively without worrying about transportation costs.
In conclusion, letting people use public transport for free with flexible operating hours is a great way to deal with traffic issues like congestion. If governments can manage this properly, traffic jams can be reduced and communities can operate more effectively.
