Privacy has always been an important aspect of everybody’s life throughout the history and some would argue that it is a fudamental human right. With the progression of technology, it has become easier than ever to invade people’s privacy in the virtual or the pysical world. The prompt states that it is nowadays impossible to completly protect our private data from the world, which I do mostly agree with for the following two reasons. Yet, I firmly blieve that there are still arrangements and preparations that can be done to optimize our privacy, especially in the virtual world.
First of all, millions of people use the internet on a daily basis and staying private there and protectiong their data is difficult and requires some level of social media and technology letieracy. Today’s technology has progressed so fast that humans, especially the elderly, have not been able to keep up with and update themselves on all the threats that target them. For example, there are various ways that your device can be infected by a virus or malware, such as infected links or etc. These ways can also be threatening through phishing attacks which steal data and money from people’s bank accounts. However, in the past, people were not worried about it and the only way a thief could rob their money and belongings was through their wallet or physical vault. This is important since the world is moving thoward more and more digitalization of everything, the threats are going to change and adapt and people will mostly fail to do which will result in them giving away their data easily that may be used to steal their valuable belongings later.
Second of all, technology advancement has led to more efficient and smaller pieces of electronics which are used in survaillance devices and made it easier to spy on people even in their physical world and face-to-face interactions. For example, smaller electronics can be used to make diminutive cameras and microphones to spy on people. In the past, making sure that no one is eavesdropping and in general, a conversation’s secrecy was more feasible but in today’s world, with such devices, it is not that easy anymore. This means it is possible that private conversations or footage of total stranges be acquired by criminal and be used for ransom or other purposes.
However, I do concede that in spite of criminals constantly evolving their methods, there are preparations that can provide people with a decent amount of privacy and confidenciality. One of the most essential aspects of it is keeping people updated with all the new technologies and dangers of them and ways of avoiding those threats. In addition, using VPNs and proxies can affectively help with staying anonymous on the internet in the larger scale. Knowledge on these matters and using related tools can enhance one’s privacy and protect their data to such extend that they can practically become a ‘cyber ghost’ and extremly hard to be tracked.
In conclusion, there are criminals that covet people’s data and many threats come along with today’s technology. These dangers can be in cyber world through cyber attacks and malwares or through physical devices spying on people in the realworld. Therefore, it is now more important than ever to be aware and look after our data and protect our privacy.
