The bar chart compares the proportion of renewable energy in total energy supply across four countries from 1990 to 2010, using ten-year intervals. From the illustration, it is immediately clear that Iceland recorded the highest figures in both the first and last years of the survey.
Additionally, most of the renewable energy sources surveyed exhibited an overall increasing trend in popularity, with the exception of Australia. In 1990, Iceland dominated the chart with approximately 46%, which was roughly 8% more than Turkey. Australia ranked third with nearly 9%, while Sweden trailed behind with a mere 6%.
By the year 2000, Iceland peaked at 60%, maintaining its position at the top of the rankings. Following this dramatic increase, Iceland’s percentage continued to rise, reaching 70% in 2010. In contrast, Australia and Turkey experienced significant declines, with their percentages dropping to about 5% and 32% respectively. Meanwhile, Sweden saw a slight increase in renewable energy usage, rising to roughly 9%.
