Some people believe that if everyone in the world spoke only one language, it would be better. I assume that speaking only one language would have more disadvantages than advantages.

One of the main benefits of speaking only one language worldwide could be faster economic development.As a result, trade and tourism might increase. Moreover, people could understand each other deeply and have a good international relationships, which help people live without language barriers.

By contrast, if everyone spoke only one language, people could forget their native languages, history, and lose their identity. In addition, Charlemagne, the Emperor of the Franks, once said, “To have another language is to possess a second soul.” That’s why the diversity of languages is very important for broadening horizons, personal growth, and brain development.

In conclusion, even though speaking only one global language could make communication easier and help the economy grow, it would also cause the loss of many cultures and identities. Therefore, I believe it is better to protect language diversity for the future of humanity.
