Band 8+: The education you receive from your family is more important than the education you receive from school. To what extent do you agree with this statement and why?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

The debate surrounding the comparison of familial education and school institution-oriented education has garnered significant attention in recent years. Some believe that school-based education severely destabilizes students’ development, while others argue that it presents manageable challenges. I believe that although school education does pose weaknesses in certain subjects, it has other aspects that can be leveraged for personal development and academic proficiency awareness.

Firstly, family-oriented education provides a supportive environment for students’ personal development. Families that teach life lessons and embed familial values can improve their children’s principles and develop their core values through parental guidance. However, it is essential to balance this concept with direct interactions and social life. Interactive environments provided by schools can ensure positive activities experienced by students as they interact with their peers, showcase their values, and implement their familial principles, thereby reducing the risk of low social skills.

Secondly, school education can facilitate academic proficiency awareness. Many argue that students constantly focusing on academic skills might neglect the fundamentals of familial awareness due to stressful and intense school lessons. Nevertheless, it is crucial to cultivate a well-balanced approach by involving school counselors and parental boards. This initiative can guide parents and school staff to align their best interests in students and devise well-discussed measures without compromising the benefits of school education.

From an individual perspective, frequent family-oriented lessons might present challenges, making it difficult for students to adapt to their peers because of limited social interactions in the family environment. However, available school extracurricular activities and efforts to emphasize the essence of enjoyable academic life can prepare students to manage these challenges. Concepts that enable students to learn about other backgrounds and expand their social sensitivity can contribute to their successful future and assist them in enhancing their academic and social skills.

In summary, while there are valid concerns about school education being less beneficial for children, its positive impacts on personal development and academic proficiency awareness cannot be ignored. By implementing a well-adjusted approach to integrate family-oriented and school-oriented education, and emphasizing the urgency of academic life, we can harness the positive aspects of these ideas, while minimizing their drawbacks.
