Nowadays, there is an ongoing debate whether smoking in public should be restricted by the government even though this trend restricts individual’s freedom. While smoking in public places could significantly affect non-smokers, I personally think that special areas should be constructed for those who smoke, and thus, agree with the statement.

On the one hand, some people may find banning smoking in public places as a form of attack on their rights and freedom. Although we all live in a free society, where everyone is in power to do whatever they want (of course if it does not contradict the law and social norms), as smoking can affect surrounding individuals, it is selfish to keep doing so in public places. For example, smoking at the restaurant, where families with children are enjoying a meal is absolutely inapropriate, as those people came there to eat and have fun and definitely not because they wanted to be exposed to smoke. Therefore, by polluting the air, smokers infringe upon the rights of those who schoose a healthy lifestyle.

On the other hand, why those who smoke should suffer from inhaling detrimental substances. Although the majority of individuals are aware about the detrimental implact of tobacco’s smoke on one’s health, very few think about how the smoke can actually affect the surrounding people. Therefore the government should establish special areas, where individuals can smoke without harming those without such a habit. Take, for example, smoking rooms at the Kyiv’s airport, where one can enjoy a sigarette. Those rooms are separated from the terminals and have contemporary ventilation systems that does not allow smoke to reach passangers and airport staff. By introducing more places like this, smokers will not feel like thair right are restricted, whereas non-smokers will not influenced by the harmful effect of tobacco smoke.

In conclusion, although many smokers may find banning smoking in public as an attack on their freedom, as their actions negatively influences surrounding people without their consent, therefore, I firmly believe smoking in public places should be restricted.
