The line graph illustrates the percentages of Australian exports to four countries (Japan, US, China and India) between 1990 and 2012.
Overall, the products exported to China and India increased, whereas Australian exports to the US and Japan decreased.
The data show a significant enhancement of exports from Australia to China, starting at about 2% in 1990 and reaching 30% in 2012, while exports to India began at about 1% in 1990 and slightly increased to about 7% over a 12-year period.
On the other hand, even though the percentage of exports was higher than to China and India in 1990, Australian sales of products to the US began at around 12% in 1990, then dropped to about 9% in 1995. Even though it increased again to the same percentage, it continued to drop to about 7% in 2012. In addition, Japan was the highest export destination among the four countries at about 27% in 1990, but this remained decreased to about 17% at the end of the period in 2012.
