Band 6+: The growth of online shopping will one day lead to all shops in towns and cities closing. Do you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

There is a noticeable growth in online selling goods where people are favoring online shops rather than local shops, seeking for more convenience. While the benefits of shopping online are undeniability huge, there are some possibilities, where these shop owners are venerable against the established online planforms and hence, resulting in closing the shops altogether. In this essay, I firmly believe that the businesses across the land have much to offer instead of giving up and closing.

There is no doubt that the people prefer to shop nowadays from their comfort of their homes seeking, better prices, convenience and avoiding hassles to carry huge items. Moreover, these days any individual who shop online do not require necessary skills such as negotiation, persuading sellers to get the products, as all these are already done for them in the form of offers, special discounts and so on. Let’s take the tech giant Amazon for example, they sell goods from paper clip to whole houses which makes it super effective to purchase everything from one place.

On the other hand, some vendors have begun to notice a shift. For instance, people now compare and preview goods beforehand, often leading them to opt for online shopping rather than visiting physical stores. Instead of resisting the trend, where they choose to offer competitive prices and deals to persuade customers, they decide to align with them. This not only satisfies the consumer but also the seller. Amazon is one of those platforms where most of their retailers are individual shop owners from across the town, both benefiting from selling goods to consumers, while also leaving the option open for customers to make in-person purchases if necessary.

In conclusion, the shifting of purchasing patterns from offline to online purchases provides a significant advantage. However, it also poses a great challenge to shop owners who risk falling behind the trend by not merging with appropriate platforms to maximize the benefits. Therefore, it is imperative to approach this trend with caution and implement measures to mitigate its negative consequences while maximizing its potential welfare.
