In contemporary society, a school of thought holds that the increasing emergence of multinational companies and globalization can exert some positive influences for everyone involved. While this view appears to be reasonable in some degrees, we should take various aspects of this phenomenon into consideration.
On the one hand, there are many rationales why a segment of the population advocates the idea that the appearance of multinational enterprises and globalization is conducive to everyone involved. First and foremost, multinational corporations often bring many investments and great opportunities to local economies, which can thrive local growth and development as well as globally. For instance, those companies can divert a substantial amount of budget in various aspects, namely education and medical, contributing to a well-educated workforce as well as improving inhabitants’ mental well-being, lengthening general longevity. Secondly, the interaction between cultures in the world is boosted significantly by these multinational enterprises, impeding language barriers as well as broadening cultural knowledge and understanding. These are the perfect testaments to the aforementioned idea.
On the other hand, it would be imprudent to neglect the negative implications of these multinational companies. Firstly, some multinational businesses might exploit natural resources and labor force in developing countries, leading to biological destabilization and poor working conditions. For instance, some of the local habitats are spoiled, endangering fauna and flora lives by putting them on the verge of extinction as well as contributing to the increasing mortality rate in worst-case scenarios. Secondly, while multinational companies may bring wealth, the distribution of this wealth might not be equitable, which widens the income gap between social classes and contributes to the increasing rate of unemployment, impoverished people in metropolises.
In conclusion, we should weigh up the benefits and disadvantages of these multinational companies.
