Recently, the government just announced the budget expenditure on space programme, reaching up to US$30 billion by November 2023. Some people then began critiquing this illogic spending as such expenditure could be more beneficial if spent on public services, such as education and health. In this occasion, I would like to state two reasons why I agree that the government should spend more on public services than on the space programme.
Firstly, burning money on space program should be stopped because it is numerically irrational. While the amount of money spent on space exploration may pike to hundreds of billions, I believe if government put their attention more on building school or improving quality of hospital, we would not take that much of number. For example, spending a billion dollar would help us improve our quality of significant number of schools, which would be significant to ensure hundreds of our children have a good quality of education.
Besides, if the amount of money could be wisely spent on public services, government could improve our life quality. I personally believe that providing excellent facilities in our education and healthcare sector could bring us happiness. For example, if our hospitals are supported by government funding to purchase advanced technology, we can feel secure as we know that we could be served in great services. I believe such security would matter rather than spending money on uncertain things such as space exploration.
To sum up, I fully agree that the government should spend more money for serving the public rather than for exploring our spaces for two main reasons. First, burning money for space exploration is numerically irrational if compared to improving public services. Second, improving our life quality is a matter that our government should pay attention to.
