In last decade, numerous innovative advancements have been achieved which immensely improved our life quality. However, these breakthroughs also lead to the homogenization of world culture. This essay will elaborate on some primary causes and feasible solutions to mitigate this potential problem.
As many technological devices is being rapidly updated to fulfil people’s needs, two main causes of cultural assimilation which can be seen are the media and globalization. Social media nowadays thrive in many countries and some such as Facebook and Instagram have attracted millions of users worldwide. These social platforms are effortless to register without age or religious constraints and enable all the netizens to share their daily lives and practices with individuals from different nations. Furthermore, travelling between distant regions have been made easier than ever by cutting-edged devices and means of transportation available. For example, in the past, it could take multiple weeks to travel from Vietnam to China, now with the development of aircrafts, the time has greatly reduced to several hours. As a result, more and more people have opportunities to be exposed to novel cultures and may reject old traditional heritage.
Propagation and giving lessons and practices about cultures at school are two potential solutions to these issues. Political leaders and influential celebrities should make critical speeches and declarations in mass media as well as social platforms in order to raise people’s awareness about this precious legacy. Moreover, teachers should spend more lectures in classes making the students realize the vitality of traditional preservation and differentiate between cultural assimilation and integration. Creating more meaningful extracurricular activities such as visiting historical attractions or museums is also an optimal measure to remind youngsters that wherever they travel, they must remember their roots. Japan’s education system is a great example of how traditional values combined with modern educational practices can lead to outstanding results.
In conclusion, the homogenization of culture has several underlying causes related to latest scientific discoveries and can lead to heavy consequences if remain unsolved. However, we may prevail by implementing a range of measures to spread the message to all corners of our country.
