Band 6+: The older generations tend to have very traditional ideas about how people should live, think and behave. However, some people believe that these ideas are not helpful in preparing younger generations for modern life. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this view?

Some traditional thoughts worshipped by the elder people have been rejected by the young generations, arguing that such ideas are not practical and useful in today fast-paced modern life. In my opinion, while some conventional norms which the old people still appeal have been proved outdated, others remain to be valuable and significant, and the youngsters should keep following them.

The traditional values that the olds possess tend to be conservative and stubborn, which fail to meet the need of the modern life. The modern society boasts flexible and open mindset, and only with such thought can both the country and individuals boost infinite productivity and creativity competing with the competitors in the globalized modern background. If a young people, for example, holds a humble and obedient mind, which is advocated by the traditional Chinese norms, he or she would be less likely to distinguish or stand out among others, leading to an inferior position or a relatively low salary. To be honest, such ideas aren’t conducive to the younger generations, instead, they may wane their competitiveness in the modern world.

Despite the negative effects of some traditional ideas on the young people, other qualities such as perseverance, integrity, and kindness that our grandparents may promote secure a bright prospect for us. A resilient and tough mind provide the young people with the power facing any adversities in the future. Integrity is another merit that the employers consider when it comes to ones job promotion. Last but not least, nobody would dislike a courteous and friendly person, which means the kindness guarantees a harmonious relationship with others. Besides these traditional virtues mentioned, more traditional norms are still worth abiding by nowadays.

In conclusion, it’s reasonable for the young people to throw away some outdated traditional ideas of the old generations, but they still need to select and digest the positive aspects of these thoughts, given its significance of bracing for the modern life for them.
