The author states that social media platforms alleviate frustration of people by complaining publicly. It has both positive and negative effect on peoples’ life. The pros and cons of this trend are discussed below.
As a social being, people generally communicate with each other. By the emergence of social media platforms, like Facebook, Twitter, Reddit etc., it is getting easier for us to express our views. Whenever we come across a problem or happy moment in our lives, we try to inform others about that. As the saying goes, happiness increases as it is shared, and sorrow or frustration attenuates. But now we are sharing everything at our disposal on these platforms. Sometimes it makes our life complicated. Suppose one person is surrounded by toxic people. If he shares his problems on social media, it can get more complicated. People around him can make fun of that situation without knowing its depth. It may work like a double-edged sword. People can blame that person further without giving him the solution or being empathetic. It leads to worse circumstances. Here, the main purpose is being hampered largely. Moreover, every topic isn’t shareable with everyone. If we need health check-up, we must go to the doctors not to the teachers. Similarly, when we want to learn something, we have to go to the teachers not doctors. In social platforms we are mixing everything up. So, we should know what we will share on these platforms and what not.
In addition to these drawbacks, social platforms have advantages too. These platforms help us to solve a problem unitedly. Blood donation plays a big role in this regard. Some blood groups are so much rare to find easily. A public post can solve the issue immediately. In some countries, movements against oppressions are being facilitated by these platforms.
In my personal experience, I came across a problem regarding blood. The patient was a rare blood type holder and wasn’t able to manage blood. My blood type wasn’t matching either. So, I posted on social media mentioning blood type and location. Withing ten minutes, I received responses and blood was managed.
Every technology has pros and cons, it is us who use these technologies and ultimately, we have to decide how we use them. Posting in social media about everything is a bad idea in my opinion but weighing the importance, we can share our frustration and complaints.
