Nowadays, many museums are organizing virtual reality tours of their collections, limiting the need for physical visits. From my perspective, the advantages of this trend don’t outweight the disadvantages. There are a lot of disadvantages to this trend such as the lack of connection with reality, and the increase of unemployement.
Museums are offering remote tours and this trend could lead to many drawbacks, one of these drawbacks is visitors won’t connect with the real world and sense other senses such as touching and smelling. This will decrease the overall experience of the museum and may lead to bad reviews by guests. For instance, some museums are specialised in huge dinosaures fossils, and if this museum organize a virtual tour, the visitors will not be amaized by the size of fossils becuase they can’t touch and see the dinosaures with their hands and eyes. As a result, visitors will not visit the museum again.
The second disadvantage is that if the museums depend on remote tours, the need of employees will reduce and leads to increase the unemployement. For example, there are people who work in cleaning and food section, if tours were planned remotely, these employees will work less time and their salary will decrease because the working hours are short, so they may leave their jobs to find other jobs that pay them a higher salary, and and unemployment will increase.
In conclusion, the poor experience of reality and the unemployment are the primary drawbacks for virtual tours. In my opinion, the advantages don’t outweight the disadvantages.
