Band 7+: The study of ancient cultures is not a relevant subject in our modern education. To what extent do you agree or disagree with this opinion?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Some individuals are convinced that the learning of historical legacy is not considered an appropriate subject in today’s rapidly developing world. Others, however, argue that the study of traditional culture is still important. I believe that the study of ancient civilizations plays a significant role in understanding various nations’ lifestyles, survival strategies, and aspects of social structures.

On the one hand, the study of ancient civilizations is essential for understanding survival strategies, the collapse of kingdoms, and the lifestyle of the ancestors of present-day people. When shaping the future, comprehension is crucial for avoiding repeating failures made by previous generations. Today’s Generation Z is not particularly enthusiastic about learning their ancestors’ life conditions, backgrounds of the Medieval or Iron Age. For example, the surveys indicate that a significant proportion of young people do not know Napoleon Bonaparte.

Secondly, governments must pay attention to maintaining their cultural heritage. They must implement cultural campaigns, promote people to visit museums, theatres, or other historical sites. Furthermore, governments should cooperate with some local organisations, and create enthusiasm among younger generations about ancient civilizations. Additionally, some PC games, such as Assassin’s Creed, also catalyze children to learn about ancient historical processes. Thus, some contemporary digital devices can also spark children’s interest in antique history.

In conclusion, despite the rapid development of modern society, I believe that ancient culture should not be neglected in education. Learning about previous civilizations allows young people to gain knowledge about historical events, understand their ancestors’ ways of life, and become more interested in preserving their cultural heritage.
