In this contemporary society, online shopping has become a major trend for many users. From offering a wide range of products to delivering just at a click of a button. However , I believed that this still have significant drawbacks to our social life and the environment.
From the environmental perspective, shopping online has a big impact on pollution. Many requirements for delivery services lead to higher toxic emissions, from public transports such as trucks, motorbikes, cars,….Futhermore, mass use from shoppers in packaging materials contributes to wastage. Plastic and cardboard are the most useful materials for packages to be delivered, therefore the increase of waste to the environment is deniable. Still, as fewer people need to travel to shops, there is a decrease number in traffic congestion and air pollution.
In terms of society, online shopping has transformed the way businesses operate. Many small businesses can now reach the global market and make a profit. Moreover, with the convenience of shopping from home, customers benefit from competitive prices and create opportunities for enterprises to grow further. However, the rise of e-commerce has also lead to job losses, as physical stores struggle to compete with online shop. Futhermore, the increase in digital transactions raises concern about cyber-security and date privacy.
In conclusion, while shopping is believed to be a growing demand in the near future, still it has causes adverse consequences to many aspects of life. Consequently, people ought to be raise awareness about the severe drawbacks of shopping to our environmental and social life.
