Controlling pests on farms with chemical sprays increases the amount of food we can produce. However, some people think that we should stop using chemical sprays. They say they kill insects and affect the environment too much, I mostly disagree with this view.
Firstly, it is true that chemicals can kill insects such as bees. Bees are important to the environment. I think that we should be careful about the chemicals farmers can use. For example, we should use chemical sprays that do not last for a long time. This way, the chemicals will not poison the environment, especially water. Also, we should immediately stop using chemicals that can cause cancer.
However, we cannot stop using chemicals entirely. In university, I read a study that said if we do not use chemicals on farms, half of the crops in the world will die because of diseases or insects. This means that farmers will not make enough food, and therefore people will suffer from hunger. If we stop using chemicals, it may also increase the cost of food. So, farmers might have to grow food on a larger area of land, which could be bad for the environment.
Chemical sprays are necessary to produce enough food for the world. For the reasons I discussed, I do not agree that we should stop using chemical sprays. If we did, it could become a very bad situation for us. However, we should be very careful with chemicals.
They must not cause too much harm to the environment.
