Band 9: The working week should be shorter and workers should have a longer weekend. DO you agree or disagree?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

As modern workplaces continue to evolve, there has been a vigorous debate over the structure of the traditional five-day workweek. Many argue that reducing the number of working days and extending the weekend can benefit both employers and employees. From my perspective, I strongly agree with this statement and I shall elaborate on my school of thought in the forthcoming essay.

One of the most important reasons for implementing a shorter working week is the improvement it can bring to work-life balance. A briefer work schedule provides employees with more time for relaxation and personal activities, which helps maintain their mental well-being. With an extra day off each week, employees have more opportunities to pursue personal hobbies, or spend quality time with their family and friends. For instance, parents can spend their day off to engage with their children and participate in their child’s educational activities, thus strengthening family relationships. As a result, having additional non-working days helps workers prevent burnout and leads to more satisfied staff members.

Beyond the aforementioned personal advantage, a reduced work week may result in economic benefits. As workers enjoy more leisure days, companies may be required to hire additional staff to sustain productivity, consequently creating potential job opportunities. This increase in job openings will reduce unemployment rates in the labor market. Moreover, longer rest days can foster consumer spending. With more free time, people tend to be involved in several leisure activities, notably dining out, traveling, or shopping, which drives economic development in various aspects. The revenue growth of some tourist destinations in Vietnam, for example, has been significant in recent years, with an increasing number of both foreign and domestic visitors spending their free time traveling each year. As a result of the rising number of visitors traveling every year, employment prospects in the tourism sector have been expanding significantly.

In conclusion, reducing the length of the workweek and extending the break period offer numerous benefits for employees, enhancing their quality of life. By promoting a better work-life balance and stimulating economic growth, shorter work days can lead to increased productivity and higher employee satisfaction.

Is this a good way of providing work for others? Should people do these things themselves? So, is this a direct question or discuss both views?

Sometimes people are paying to others, in order to take care for their children and for household chores. I believe that it is a good way to provide work opportunity for others.
