Recently, the world’s population is increasing and reaching its all-time peak. Consequently, there are 2 arguments in responding to this phenomenon, the positive and the negative one. After discussing both views, I will give my opinion towards it.
The negative side of overpopulation is it will leads to global crisis. One of possible reason is current agricultural system cannot supply enough food for people, especially in the food-importing country. For example, Indonesia, which has rice as its staple and still imports it, can be exposed to famine because of its increasing needs. This phenomenon can occurs in many countries at the same time and therefore leads to economic crisis worldwide.
However, one of the positive side of population growth is a productivity development. People are forced to be innovative and therefore develop new technologies that increase their production. Moreover, government in each countries most probably will coordinate its citizen optimally. For example, India, which still has a rising population, is increasing their electricity consumption and massively builds factories, schools, and other economic facilities that will be beneficial to its economy and society.
From both of these arguments, I argue that it is still an advantage for humankind. Its negative consequences can be mitigated by producing food more. On the other hand, its advantage can be maximized by government efforts toward its citizen welfare.
In conclusion, population growth is a current phenomenon and needs to be carefully analyzed of its impacts. I still believe that its positive outcomes still outweigh the negative ones if managed properly.
