Nowadays, the development of music industry has become increasingly diverse due to the fact that more musicians have recently emerged. Additionally, social media has exposed people to a wider variety of music genres. On the other hand, a considerable proportion of individuals believe that traditional music has plunged in popularity. People listen to music to relax their mind or sometimes motivate them to do a certain activity such as studying and working out. I’m under the impression that although international music attracts more individuals, it is still important to respect and listen to the traditional music of an individual country.
Firstly, individuals listen to music to comfort their mind and body or by contrast sometimes motivate them to do a certain activity such as studying and working out. The reason is that some songs usually contain lyrics that sound good or rather a reminiscence experienced by an individual’s life, and as the development of the music industry becomes diverse there are more genres now like rap music that motivates an individual to keep working. For example, a student that just finished a stressful week of school may listen to their favourite genre to relax themself and comfort their body or a person that got their heart broken could listen to motivational songs like rap that may motivate them to study and work out. Hence, music has helped many individuals in their life by comforting and motivating them.
Secondly, as time passes more international music has emerged, this significantly increased their popularity while consequently decrease the popularity for traditional and local music. The reason is that traditional music is much more boring and less popular compared to international music which individuals listen to almost daily. As an example, one of the most popular songs in Indonesia is its country anthem compared to a song made by professional musicians, teenagers would often prefer the songs developed by a musician as it is more enjoyable to listen to, and much more engaging.
Ultimately, although international music usually sounds better than the local and traditional music it is still important to respect them as they represent the country’s culture and identity.
