Since the beginning of 21st century, world population has grown significantly. Furthermore, the advancement in technology has led to cheaper and technically efficient cars without any improvements to become eco-friendly. Thus, with cars contributing to pollution of cities, it seems necessary to encourage people to use alternatives instead. In this essay I will provide some practical solutions to address this predicament.

One good approach is to increase the price of natural gas and petroleum. If the price of petroleum is increased, people will be tempted to try alternative methods of Transportaion such as bicycles or chargeable scooters. Such scheme has already been tested. Most people in Amsterdam are now using bicycles for work. However, it seems impossible to apply this to huge cities in Beijing, where the workplaces are miles away from rural areas.

A more viable approach is to restrict the number of times, that a car could be seen in motorways. It could immediately lead to encourage everyone to use the public transportation instead. Although, this strategy could lead to national unhappiness, since it could lead to feeling of oppression and unhappiness.

The best approach is to improve the quality of public transportation, increase the quantity of vehicles available in cities and add more subway stations. This strategy shows everyone the determination of governments to improve the overall health of society. Therefore, people could also feel responsible and help expand this scheme.

Overall, there are many solutions to select from. However, the price increase of natural gas and limitations on the number of times a car could be seen outside could have long term consequences, while the best option seems to be improvement in public transportation.
