In this contemporary world, tourism’s developments have yet to show signs of halting, now becoming one of the largest employers in the world. However if left untreated, the demerits of such a notion may become apparent, scattering themselves in many places. As such, this essay’s goal is to analyze what possible consequences this could bring and in turn, recommend immediate solutions to rectify the issue.
One primary problem this would make is the vast amount of people all heading to a single, common tourist destination, forming what is known as overpopulation. The unrestricted access for everyone allows them to book and arrive at a renowned destination without consequences or limits; therefore, commotions would be ubiquitous and can be viewed as a nuisance, especially to the locals nearby. Another big issue is litters being scattered in practically every place within big attraction sites. Rules against littering are hardly enforced, so trash can easily be left out without the owner owning up to the outcome of their own action. Furthermore, determining the real perpetrator would be quite challenging, as the vast amount of visitors are enough to give them much needed anonymity. Coupled with the aforementioned issue, it becomes crystal clear as to why unmanaged mass tourism can stir up significant predicaments.
Because of this, a two-pronged approach must be in order. Firstly, a pervasive limit to how many books are to be taken at once will cut down on overpopulation in certain areas. This way, much less commotions will be produced and will likely inhibit the disturbance of many locals nearby. Moreover, this will also give the restricted area a sense of uniqueness, boosting sales being made and popularity in such a region. Secondly, not only rules against littering, but also campaigns which pertain to such an issue should also be improvised. That is, the reduced number of tourists in one area make it a viable option to incorporate into. This essentially means that people will no longer have the anonymity they needed, which gives them the pressure of being seen, incentivizing them not to throw trash randomly and that harsh punishments will fall upon them if they do.
In summary, the issues that come with tourism still persist today and require collective efforts and funds. By improvising booking limits, starting up campaigns and strictly enforcing rules about trash, we together can somewhat remedy the consequences brought by untreated mass tourism. This proactive response will not only give ways to a cleaner environment but also makes the world a more
