In recent years, university students are increasingly studying abroad as part of their studies. The main disadvantage of studying abroad is that students may struggle with the language and communication with locals but there are some benefits such as getting a good education and gain new experiences. Although studying abroad has certain disadvantages, I believe its advantages outweigh them.
To begin with, one notable benefit is that students can meet a lot of people and make beneficial connections which may help them in the future. By building relationships with others, students can feel supported. For example, a student who has difficulty finding a job can use his connections and ask them for advice. If one of his friends works for a company, he could recommend the student for a position at the company. As a result, students can build their own career in the future and increase their chances to get a job.
One potential downside is that students may encounter a language barrier when communicating with local people. This is because students may not understand the local language well enough to communicate effectively in everyday situations. For instance, while studying in the United States I had to make a fool of myself in order to communicate with the local people in their language. Oftentimes, I felt embarrased and I wanted to speak Russian and be in the environment of my culture.
In conclusion, I firmly believe that the advantages of studying abroad outweigh the disadvantages, as the professional connections students establish can benefit their future careers, while language barriers may become less significant over time.
