Nowadays, it is getting more and more well-liked among young people to have a gap year after the last year of school and before the first year of university. Of course, this decision has it’s odds and drawbacks, and these will be covered in this essay.
One of the main advantages is that you have more time to think about your career decision. It means that it gives you an opportunity to try yourself in different spheres or gives you time to reflect about future choice of profession. It does not force you to rush and make rash choices. Moreover, focusing on creating financial stability, which may help to separate from parents, is advantageous. In the USA, for instance, a significant quantity of adolescents enroll at universities approximately at the age of 25, because a high degree in USA is expensive so they try to earn money for at least the first year of university payment.
Turning to the other side of the argument, the sense of missing out opportunities provided by education is a major issue. Psychologically it is difficult to realize that your peers may be more successful than you. Another drawback is the pressure from relatives and parents. These types of people have a statement that if you have a degree then you will be absolutely prosperous. By way of example, youth in post Soviet Union countries has challenges to have a year off since this is considered you will be a ignoramus and will not have a brilliant future and stable salary.
To conclude, there are some pluses to having a gap year, such as just enjoying life or finally traveling to other countries. In my opinion, every person can choose her or his future so no matter what will be a decision it will always be a beneficial choice.
