Many individuals think that luck is the key to achieving their life goals. While luck plays a vital role in our lives, I personally argue that achievements require a lot of discipline and luck is something beyond human control.
On the one hand, the argument that luck plays an important role does have some merit. This is because luck can often lead to unpredictable consequences that may benefit a person. For instance, people can win a large amount of prize in a lottery or meet a person who will change their lives. Such unexpected events are largely a matter of luck. However, this view overlooks the chances of failure, which is why I believe the following argument is more compelling.
On the other hand, I think that discipline is a more important consideration. Firstly, making progress towards people’s goals requires self-control. This means that people’s aims are achieved by controlling their own actions and having power to complete difficult tasks. For example, in order to become fit, people must stop consuming junk food as well as having intention to go to the gym. Furthermore, while luck can play a significant role in achievements, it is uncontrollable, which can lead to unrealistic expectations. For example, many people may rely on luck and expect to pass an exam, so they will not prepare for exam’s questions. Ultimately, those who expect to pass the exam will likely fail it.
In conclusion, although luck plays an essential role in our lives, I believe that leading a disciplined lifestyle is more convincing. Overall, I completely disagree with the statement because luck is mostly an uncontrollable factor.
