Band 7+: With the development of technology children are now living in a world that is completely different to what it was 50 years ago. What problems this cause for society and the family?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In today’s technological era, many children are growing up in a world filled with gadgets, which are transforming their lives into something resembling a cyberpunk compared to life 50 years ago. While this modern lifestyle introduces convenience and innovation, it also brings several negative consequences for families and society. In this essay, I will discuss the problems caused by technology and propose possible solutions.

On the one hand, Generation Z children are growing up with modern gadgets that often lead to addiction. For instance, many parents buy mobile phones for their children for safety reasons like allowing them to call, message, or email. However, instead of using these devices for communication, many children spend leisure time playing video games or watching mindless animations which results in addiction. Furthermore, some children pressure their parents to buy expensive devices, affecting the family’s financial stability. For example, many kids are obsessed with Apple’s new gadgets and pester their parents to purchase them, even though they are underage. In addition, the overuse of gadgets can lead to safety concerns. For example, children who use devices while outside may become distracted and unaware of their surroundings, increasing the risk of accidents or even kidnapping.

On the other hand, there are some possible solutions to these problems. Firstly, children’s parents should set restrictions on using mobile phones. For instance, parents can allow 20 minutes of mobile phone use each day only for educational purposes, such as getting support from teachers online or collecting resources from websites for projects. Secondly, parents should educate their kids about children who have developed health or mental issues due to overusing gadgets. For example, parents could show cases of children who developed eye or brain problems from using mobile phones for extended periods. Lastly, teachers or parents should teach children to stay aware while using gadgets outside. For instance, they can explain how to stay cautious in crowded places by giving real life examples of incidents like kidnapping or robbery.

In conclusion, many children today are living the dreams of past generations by using advanced technologies in their daily lives. However, some misuse of these tools by spending too much time on video games or social media, which often disappoints their parents. Fortunately, these issues can be solved if families and society work together to educate children and implement healthy rules for gadget use.
