With the appearance of online shops and communication through digital devices, offline shops and shopping centers are closing down. This trend may be attributed to several factors such as their convenience and the ability to buy despite time. However, it will affect local communities negatively due to the lack of physical activity and the growth of unemployment.
On the one hand, there are compelling reasons for this trend. First and foremost, the convenience of online shops may be a potential reason. In other words, consumers may browse and purchase products online instead of going to places. To illustrate, one of the most popular brands in the world named NIKE does not have physical location in Kazakhstan. Instead of having place a physical store, Nike has online shopping centers that offer Kazakh citizens purchase through online. As a result, Kazakh citizens do not need to move to another country to buy NIKE clothes, and they may purchase clothes through online websites. In addition, online shop websites operate 24/7, allowing consumers to purchase clothes at any time of the day. For instance, consumers may purchase clothes at night or in the morning or even during lessons. As a consequence, the ability to work every day despite the time makes online shops more popular than offline shops.
On the other hand, there are several impacts local communities. First and most obvious, it will negatively affect consumers’ physical well-being. This stems from the fact that when consumers go to offline shops, they walk which burns calories and supports their physical health. A prime example of this is recent study conducted by health researcher called James Smith delved deeply into the relationships between online shops and physical activity. The conclusion demonstrates that people with the appearance of online shops started to walk less than before. As a result, local communities may likely to suffer from extra weight. Moreover, the growth in unemployment also may arise with the disappearance of physical shops. In other words, jobs which physical shops offer such as sellers may completely disappear due to online shops. Therefore, the number of jobless people may significantly increase.
To conclude, despite the fact that online shops provide their convenience and the ability to work 24 on 7, internet shops will negatively impact local communities due to the lack of physical activity and an increase of unemployment.
