On the one hand, social media has several benefits, and one of the most important is sharing information. Because of the internet, specifically social media, nowadays we are able to share anything within a split second with the world, thus making it easier and more accessible from any remote place using just a smartphone. For instance, think about a lost item advertisement; it’s much easier to post a photo of a lost item on social media rather than print it and paste it on the wall in different places, saving time and money. In contrast, because of social media and the internet, sharing information has become much easier and more cost-effective.
On the other hand, information shared on social media is not always reliable. As sharing information on the internet has no regulation, allowing users to freely share whatever they want, this often creates confusion among people. For example, if someone shares something on social media as fun or just as a prank, other people might think of it as a serious issue. Although there are several websites to verify fake news, most people, especially the older generation, don’t know about them.
Although rapid growth on social media has lots of drawbacks, I believe this is a positive trend, allowing us to share information and stay in touch with our loved ones.
