Some people believe that technology affects our society adversely, whereas others find it as a consequence of social development. In my opinion, innovation is essential for the betterment of our society.
There are plenty of reasons why technology advancement causes the distance between customs and individuals. To begin with, younger people are now connected globally and they prefer foreign lifestyles. Children and young generation are spending most of their leisure time on social media platforms, which interests them in modern lifestyles and different cultures. Therefore, the youngsters are highly influenced by distinct traditions across the world and started forgetting their own. For example, a huge part of Indian society is deeply westernised whether it is related to cuisine or fashion. Additionally, rather than celebrating the cultural festivals by gathering, people prefer text messaging and video calling. Consequently, they have started giving less importance to their festivals and relationships.
However, technology advancement causes a number of benefits for our society. One of the major benefits of technology in human life is to preserve tradition digitally. To illustrate, there is an online platform called YouTube, on which several influencers upload their videos that are related to their culture and traditional delicacies. This can not only preserve their cultural heritage, but also pass it to the people globally. Moreover, people are more interested in capturing their small moments in their mobile phones. This will facilitate them to save their memories which they can pass on to their descendants or they post it on social media platforms like Instagram and Facebook to spread globally.
Whether digitalization is a boon or bane, it entirely depends on how people utilize it in their lives. According to me, technology is made for the betterment of the world, not to diminish our culture and beliefs. If used properly, it makes every culture renowned globally.
