Capital punishment is the most feasible approach to control violence in society. By implementing it, crime rates will decrease and our lives will become much more secure. In my opinion, although capital punishment can stop people from committing crimes, I firmly believe that everyone deserves a second chance to change their lives.
On the one hand, implementing capital punishment can reduce crimes because criminals will fear the legal consequences, so they will stop committing violent crimes. People who argue this approach is effective think that executing dangerous offenders can give justice to victims and their families. As a result, it helps our environment from any crimes. For example, in Indonesia, the perpetrators of murder and rape receive the death penalty because it is a highly inhumane and heinous crime. Therefore, some people feel that execution is an effective way to keep society safe.
On the other hand, I firmly believe that everyone deserves a second chance to change their lives. Capital punishment is a permanent consequence which means criminals cannot get forgiveness once they are executed. By considering other alternatives, such as rehabilitation or education, it will open their mind about what they did was wrong and harmful to others, so that they will not commit crimes anymore and struggle to be better people in the future. For example, corruptors get a second chance to correct their mistakes and recover state financial losses. This would lead to creating social well being and opening chances for individuals to become good citizens.
In conclution, even though many people argue that capital punishment is the best way to reduce criminal rates because it could make criminals fear of the punishment, from my perspective, considering other visible alternatives, such as rehabilitation and education, allow them to get a second chance to change their personality to become obedient inhabitants.
