A controversial topic nowadays is whether university majors should adopt a wide scope of electives from different unrelated departments, or if each department should only provide knowledge in relevant topics.
On one hand, individuals who receive education solely for their interests show more passion and understanding of the subject’s they are being taught. Unlike secondary education which is designed to make students experience as many things as possible in order for them to find their interest, university student already have their heart and soul in the department they have chosen and generally are less interested in exploring unrelated topics. In addition, business and science undergraduate courses are already very intense and involve a wide variety of major-specific subjects to prepare students for employment. Including moudels from humanities will only add more pressure on students and will possibly undermine their productivity.
On the other hand, students should not be oblivious to other aspects of science. When a student graduates from university, they should have sufficient knowledge about all socially relatable topics, and these topics are mostly taught in humanities science models. So, university students have to at least attend models that are essential for the sustainability of human development.
In conclusion, although science and administrative majors are already intense and complex, including humanities models in their education, it is important to ensure that they are not only highly qualified manpower but also capable of conquering social challenges thrown their way.
