Advantage And Disadvantage

Band 6+: Young people are often influenced in their behaviors by others in the same age group. Some argue that peer pressure is important while others feel it has distinct disadvantages. Do the disadvantages of peer pressure outweigh the advantages?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

It is contended that the behavior of people in young generation is easily influenced by the peers of the same age group. An individual’s personal growth and exposure to the outside world are the advantages whereas, bad influence of mates is one of the biggest drawbacks.

To begin with, surrounding yourself with good people often reflects one’s personality. A good circle of friends is the biggest influence on an individual’s personality. It is responsible for the overall growth of a person and there is a saying that the social circle of an individual tells most of the things about him as it is directly responsible for the growth of his personality. Exposure to the outside world is one of the crucial factors for the development of a person and, having right people in life helps in providing that. For instance, if an individual is surrounded by the people who are always there to guide him and ready to be there for him in every moment of his life will hugely impact him in a positive way.

On the other hand, having a negative influence of people could be destructive. With the peer pressure of bad people, an individual could land him up in risky behaviors which can ruin their life. This can make one’s life worse. Recent studies have showed that many teenagers are getting involved in drugs and the biggest reason is the influence of bad social circle.

In conclusion, it is evident that having a social circle of good people will have a very positive effect on an individual’s life but, on the same side, negative influence could make it worse.
