Now I'm going to talk about a situation where I encountered a stranger talking on the phone in public. It was six months ago when I was commuting from work to home. It was a typical weekday evening, and the bus was crowded with people returning from their jobs. When I settled into my seat, I noticed a young boy who was engrossed in a phone conversation. It was difficult not to overhear him because he was speaking in a really loud voice. At first, he appeared to be discussing business matters. By the way he spoke, he cleared everything up. He was negotiating a deal or resolving an urgent issue at work. He had some authority and suggested that he had important information. I couldn't help but be intrigued by what he was saying. Part of me found it irritating that he was not more mindful of his volume. Another part of me felt sympathetic towards him because he seemed to be under considerable pressure. After some time, he ended the conversation. After that, the passengers were relieved, and we could resolve our own thoughts. This situation was irritating but also fascinating and thought-provoking regarding communication norms in public spaces.
