This happened during the final semester of my MFIL studies. One of my closest friends, who is also in the same program, was going through a particular level of pain. Her father had suddenly been in a mental health crisis and she had to take many responsibilities at home. Naturally, this disturbances her academic focus in this several important lectures and was completely stressed with the pressure of catching up. As a friend of one of the students, I felt that I was my moral duty to support her. I reached out to her gently because I know she wouldn’t ask for help directly and I offered to share some notes and explain everything she had missed. We said that my studies should be done and I even helped her prepare for her research.
