  1. Muhammad Shahbaz says:

There is an ongoing debate about whether university students should study subjects outside their main degree. Some believe this widens their knowledge, while others argue students should concentrate solely on their qualification. This essay discusses both views and presents my opinion.

On one hand, learning additional subjects can broaden students’ thinking and develop valuable skills. For example, a computer science student who studies psychology may develop better problem-solving and communication skills. Exploring different fields also keeps students motivated and reduces stress by giving them variety in their routine.

On the other hand, many students feel that university is already demanding, so their time should be focused on their main degree. Concentrating on their core subjects helps them achieve high grades and build strong expertise, which is essential for future careers. Studying unrelated subjects may distract them and reduce the time needed to master their main coursework.

In conclusion, I believe a balanced approach is best. Students should focus on their main subjects but also take one or two additional courses that genuinely interest them, as this can support both personal and academic growth.

  2. Rakib Hasan says:

While few argue that university students should learn about other subjects apart from their main subjects, other believe it is more important to put all of their focus on their own subject for a degree. I believe that undergraduate students should learn about other subjects in addition to their main subjects and in this essay I will explain both views from my perspective.

There are quite a few reasons why some people believe that students should focus on their main subject alone. Firstly, when we focus on different types of subjects instead of our main subject, we may get distracted from our main goal. As a result, we can mess up our career. Secondly, when we focus on more subjects, we require more time and as a result we cannot manage enough time for our academic studies. And because of this, our academic results may decrease. Moreover, if we gather multiple skills during our academic life, we can become confused while choosing our career.

On the other hand, there are also many benefits of learning other subjects in addition to main subject. For instance, when we are interested in different subjects, we can gain lots of knowledge from different sectors. In addition, we can learn about other useful skills by learning about different subjects in addition to our main subject. Also, additional skills can support us to earn more money, even if we face difficult circumstances. Furthermore, people can become smarter and gain outside knowledge about the current world. Additionally, it gives chance make an income from other income sources. As a result, we don’t have to worry about losing jobs. For example, during a pandemic, people can support themselves using their other skills and can make money using those skills.

In conclusion, although some people have concerns over the student’s lack of focus on their main subject, I believe learning different subjects makes people more advanced in this modern world.

  3. Sarvar 7.5 eilts says:

Nowadays, most university pupils have main subjects, but some students learn additional subjects from their experience. Some people believe that all the time students spend studying for a qualification. Overall, all the learning conditions lead to improving the knowledge of people who learn additional subjects.

On the one hand, most students learn several subjects in order to improve or need a university certificate. Moreover, Japan allows students to learn other languages or subjects such as math, history, even astronomy. But the condition was not enough for daily life for Japanese pupils. So it means that they have already done this job and are already experienced people. However, some people throughout the world do not do it and, consequently, have less experience than other people. But students prefer improving their experience through university as they need to. A recent survey shows that German people prefer improving their knowledge because university does not allow less knowledge at university. So that meant people improved their qualifications.

On the other hand, these additional lessons can interfere with keeping the focus on the major subjects. In most cases, scholars have a lot of demands in their studies; moreover, some of them work and make money. Because these individuals have just entered adulthood, not many people want to waste their time and keep the focus on subjects which probably will not bring benefits to their career goals. For instance, medical students often have an extremely demanding curriculum that requires full dedication. If they pay attention to unrelated subjects, they compromise their understanding of medical knowledge and practical skills which can be dangerous for their future profession. Thus, I support this statement.

There is an ongoing debate regarding, emphasizing on compulsory courses for higher education in universities. A group of individuals believes that students should have opportunities to attend extracurricular programs. However, others argue that they would pay attention to the requisite subjects of their majors. Therefore, ahead of my opinion, both views will be elaborated further in the forthcoming paragraphs.

Examining the former opinion, the primary argument the supporters would put forward is that professional institutes, namely a university, should provide special courses to students, which are based on their specific needs. Moreover, this chance will enable attendees to receive ultimate knowledge and essential skills that can be applied to professional careers. For instance, a medical program should permit residents to attend a musical class in spare time; consequently, this measure could assist psychological conditions when they graduate and pursue careers as physicians. In addition, they also believe that learners should put effort and spend whole time practicing to be experts in specific fields; therefore, extra activities, particularly outside the classroom, may lead the students to lose their intention of study. To illustrate, some engineering schools in Thailand have been frustrated when the members ought to participate in the university’s matriculation.

On the contrary, those in favour of the latter opinion have their own argument. To begin with they claim that professional curriculums, such as medical school and dentistry faculty, would utilize time during their semesters practicing specializations and should learn about moral ethics for experts. Hence, a multitude of members lessen the marvelous opportunities to join many advantageous activities, namely cheer club, and a kind of sport teams. To exemplify, some medical faculties in the northern region tend to assign students overwhelming coursework and to schedule a deadline to submit it during a sport day.

To conclude and offer my position, there are convincing arguments both for and against focusing on imperative subjects for university students. However, I certainly favour the former opinion.

  5. Uvalieva Aigerim says:

In contemporary society, while some university students desire to have additional subjects in their program, others think that they are unnecessary and that paying attention to the main study of the profession is more vital. Although additional lessons help to be versatile, I disagree with this view because of the interference with the main disciplines.

On the one hand, extra classes can broaden students’ horizons. It is widely recognized that now many sciences and disciplines are collaborating with each other. In the future, it will help to come up with a new idea or launch a startup. For example, individuals who study business at the university need to learn about other subjects such as the educational system, innovations and technology, and medicine. Due to the breadth of the qualification, it can be hard to achieve career aspirations without knowledge of some specific spheres. Therefore, in the century of collaboration, learning other subjects will be able to assist in accumulating professional experience when a graduated individual is entering the workforce.

On the other hand, these additional lessons can interfere with keeping the focus on the major subjects. In most cases, scholars have a lot of demands in their studying; moreover, some of them work and make money. Because these individuals have just entered adulthood, not many people want to waste their time and keep the focus on subjects which probably will not bring any benefits in their career goals. For instance, medical students often have an extremely demanding curriculum that requires full dedication. If they were to divide their attention among unrelated subjects, it might compromise their understanding of medical knowledge and practical skills, which could be dangerous for their future profession. Thus, I support this statement.

In conclusion, extra classes can increase the erudition of the person; however, it does not have any advantages in achieving career goals. In my opinion, unrelated subjects are inessential and should not take up space in the university program.

  6. Zim Al-Shahriar says:

Some university students believe that they should gain knowledge of other subjects in addition to their main area of study. Others think students should focus mainly on their grades rather than on additional subjects. Although studying multiple subjects might help some students, this essay supports the view that focusing on a traditional curriculum is more effective.

Nowadays, many students try to learn new things at the same time. By doing so, they gain knowledge of new ideas, technologies, and other fields. There is no doubt that this is not a negative thing, but it is only useful for a very small number of students. This is because most average students cannot keep up with it. For example, a study conducted in Bangladesh showed that many students failed in non-departmental subjects, and they blamed the introduction of additional topics.

On the other hand, many students prefer to focus only on their core subjects and aim to earn good grades. They aim to obtain higher qualifications in order to secure a good job. This essay agrees with this group because the job market is shrinking due to the rise of artificial intelligence. For instance, AI is replacing many workers who do not specialize in a specific field. Therefore, some students prefer to master one area deeply instead of learning many basic or intermediate-level skills.

In conclusion, focusing on a single academic goal is a wiser choice, as there is a high chance of being replaced by AI if one is not specialized in a specific domain—unless someone is willing to take that risk.

  7. Sajjad Mohammadi says:

Some university students assert that they need to take in other subjects along with their main field; however, other believe that all students’ time and energy should be allocated to their studies for university degree. I suppose that both sides have their own positive and negative points which should not be neglected, and a compromise should be taken.

On the one hand, in today’s complicated world in which all fields are tightly connected to each other, having no information about some majors and skills which can be related to individual’s subject could be a drawback. Because almost all fields and majors have become interdisciplinary, also require some professional software, graduates should be familiar with those fields. Moreover, learning a foreign language has been crucially important for all students, making being a multi-skilled person inevitable. For instance, an engineer should be able to speak in English to find better job opportunities.

On the other hand, some claim that today’s world places a premium on expertise which requires concentrating on the main major and allotting all their time on it. If students segmented their time and energy, they would have to dabble in their vitally necessary courses, triggering in shallow understanding and lower grades. This probably is bound to deteriorate their chance to not only get a better job, but also have a better performance in their job. as an example, courses which need some field analysis and assessment and an essay should be written, need great time and energy and focusing on other fields sacrifices these courses.

In summary, both contentions including learning some related fields and software beside the main subject; and dedicating all time and energy to the main field have advantages and disadvantages. Indulgence and restraint in both extremes may result in dire repercussions. It should be considered that with keen competitions in job opportunities, a balance between these assertions is crucially important.

  8. Reinina Nurmalidha says:

People who enter university usually have a higher drive to learn. This results in some students’ curiosity about studying different types of subjects that are outside their majors. On the other hand, some people believe that it is more necessary to focus on their aligned subjects. I think that having a greater proportion of focus on the chosen major is more important since it gives a credible qualification for the degree as a graduate.
Many universities provide numerous courses ranging from different disciplines. Because of this, some students are intrigued to learn about other topics that are not in line with their chosen major and are not provided within the course syllabus. For example, many law students are interested in taking psychology subjects to understand more about human personalities, since they are going to be working with different types of people in their future careers. This is understandable because law school topics mostly span around the theoretical basis of law itself rather than an understanding of human nature.
Besides that, there are people who think giving attention to their own subject is more essential, since the courses are constructed according to the expertise needed for the degree. For instance, medical majors commonly have their curriculums set, and they contain topics that students must master in order to become a doctor or pharmacist. Therefore, enrolling in other subjects would interfere with the initial curriculum that has already been set and may call into question the knowledge of the graduates later on.
Overall, there are two views when it comes to studying in university: the freedom to take different disciplines or focusing on only one. I personally think that it is necessary to stick to what we chose at the beginning as part of our degree qualification.

  9. Ratri Atsil Hendrardini says:

As our ancestors said, there are no “dones” in learning. We are learning throughout the day, every day of our lives, not only in class.

Students who are taking a class beyond their major subject are expanding their studies. As well, it is beneficial to have wider connections and information from other points of view rather than confining ourselves to only one main subject. Furthermore, by taking such classes, students will learn soft skills such as time management and leadership skills.

On the other hand, students who focus on their studies can maintain their grades, excel in hard skills and become the best graduates. Plus, that will be seen as a good addition for some well-known companies. Nevertheless, a person who has great life skills, as a result of their activity outside campus, will also be seen as a person who can manage their time and have better interpersonal skills. For example, famous and important people are usually from a reputable university and diverse in many social activities, such as Bill Gates, Taylor Swift, and Barack Obama.

By my personal experiences, I prefer doing an internship in my summer holidays rather than doing extra classes. Because for me, having experiences in real industry will gain a greater connection outside campus. In addition, doing volunteer work for community services is also important to improve our communication skills and our sense of concern in our environment.

To conclude, in spare time, giving hours for community development and society services will make a great contribution to personal qualifications in applying for jobs.
