Should governments provide funding for the arts?

I believe that governments shouldn't provide funding for the arts. Art is not a necessity for the government and doesn't generate any direct profit. I think the arts, including music, should be self-sufficient and find ways to fund their own research and expenses. The government should prioritize spending on essential services like hospitals and schools.
