Some people argue that modern life provides a better quality of living compared to a century ago. While I agree that today’s world offers numerous conveniences, I believe certain aspects of life in the past were more fulfilling and emotionally rewarding.
On the one hand, modern technology has significantly enhanced people’s living standards. The widespread use of digital devices such as smartphones, laptops, and smart TVs allows individuals to access entertainment, perform complex tasks, and stay informed at all times. For instance, while it once took weeks to deliver or receive letters, people today can send instant messages or make video calls across the globe in mere seconds. These advancements not only save time but also contribute to a more convenient and fulfilling lifestyle.
On the other hand, although modern technology enhances convenience, it has also contributed to higher stress levels and job insecurity. The growing reliance on Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the workplace means that many tasks—such as data analysis, calculations, or even assembly—are now performed more efficiently by machines. As a result, employees in traditional roles may face redundancy, especially in industries that prioritize automation. This technological displacement has increased anxiety among job seekers and low-skilled workers, making modern life more mentally taxing for many.
In conclusion, while technological advancements have significantly improved modern living standards, they have also introduced serious challenges in today’s competitive environment. Therefore, I believe that whether life is better now largely depends on which aspects are taken into account.
