In today’s world of globalization, that students choose to study abroad is not a rare occurrence. This essay support the notion that the merits of such a practice do not outshine the demerits and will elaborate on both the benefits as well as the drawbacks of the mentioned matter,

On the one hand, by moving to developed countries, one could get access to high-quality or even top-notch education. The knowledge and understanding that one learns from prestigious intuitions together with the reputation of such schools will stand one in good stead for the future career prospects. Moreover, studying in foreign nations facilitates independence and adaptability, which are indispensable traits in this constantly-evolving world. Last but not least, through contact with people of different races, one could gain cross-culture understanding and global perspectives, which fosters open-mindedness and uniqueness of each individual.

On the other hand, language barrier and cultural differences could be the hindrances during integration. The intolerable cultural changes may lead to the feeling of isolation and in some extreme case, mental problems, chief amongst being depression. That is not to mention discrimination, xenophobia and racism to name but a few, which could exacerbate one’s insecurity. For instance, a great number of international students in the USA admit having suffered culture shock and homesick within the first year in this country, some have even thought of giving up on studying as they could not withstand such negative feelings.

By and large, career opportunities, the acquisition of soft skills besides multi-faceted perspective are the benefits of foreign studying, yet one may have to deal with radical changes in culture as well as language unfamiliarity It is noteworthy that these pros and cons could vary from person to person; hence, bringing this matter into thoughtful consideration is the only avenue through which one could minimize the negative influences and fully reap the benefits.
