Band 7+: Nations should spend more money on skills and vocational training for practical work, rather than on university education. To what extent do you agree or disagree? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples.

In this day and age, some people are of the opinion that more money should be allocated to enhance skills and vocational training for practical work rather than on tertiary education. From my perspective, I partly agree with this viewpoint due to the many advantages that these two different educational approaches can offer people, which will be explained further in this essay.

On the one hand, there are many reasons why some people think that it is necessary for nations to fund skills and vocational programs for practical work instead of university education. Many industries, such as manufacturing, construction, and technical services, rely heavily on workers with hands-on, practical skills. By investing in vocational programs, governments can immediately address the shortage of skilled labor and fill critical gaps in the workforce. For instance, training programs in fields like plumbing, and automotive engineering, provide individuals with the skills to start working in their professions shortly after completing their studies. Moreover, vocational training often takes less time and is more affordable than university education, making it accessible to a broader range of people, particularly those from low-income backgrounds.

Funding higher education, on the other hand, also brings about multiple advantages. University education is indispensable for certain fields that require deep theoretical knowledge and research-based expertise. Professions like medicine and law require students to undergo extensive academic training to ensure they are prepared to tackle complex challenges. For example, people working in the medical field have to acquire in-depth knowledge and experience with regard to their professions accumulated over many years of patient care. However, university tuition fees are often too costly for some students to pursue their passionate majors, as a result, many talented and enthusiastic individuals must quit their dreams. Therefore, if the government can offer scholarships and funds for these cases, more excellent people will have the opportunity to follow their passions as doctors or scientists.

In conclusion, although there are mixed views on whether the national budget should be spent on vocational schools or universities, both educational approaches play an indispensable role in the enhancement of the country. Therefore, national leaders need to distribute a suitable amount of money to education to improve the country.
