In this day and age, sports are gradually affirming their influence worldwide, leading to several international events, the prime example is The Olympic Games. Some people consider this event an overwhelmingly wasteful and extravagant event, while others are biased by its benefit in fostering diplomatic bonds. I am totally convinced by the former idea. although agree that both sides have their outstanding rationales.
The main reason to support my thinking is that The Olympic Games necessitate the main country to cover an extreme number of large-scale infrastructures, ranging from football stadiums, running yards, swimming pools, etc. In fact, the initial amounts of infrastructure are not abundant for this international event as this excessive amount is beyond the domestic requisites, leading to enormous one-off projects exclusively used in the Olympic Games. This trend potentially results in a detrimental case of long-term debt, although the immense expenditure on these constructions is supposed to be channeled toward social welfare and mitigating existing social issues. London, for instance, is the city that has spent nearly 5 billion dollars to host the Olympic Games equal to the total income of the people of this city in 5 years, and has been managing to surpass the debt.
On the other hand, the opponents of my idea typically state that this event is a key factor in fostering an effective diplomatic tight, offering a platform to facilitate possibilities for several Prime Minister’s meetings. This is believed to present more opportunities for international cooperation or at least mitigate the preexisted conflict amongst nations. Furthermore, there is an expectation that this event will serve as a catalyst for future global events that may be planned, thereby establishing a more vibrant global ecosystem. However, the event itself poses a sense of competitiveness both during the bidding process and the duration, it is conceivable to exacerbate the tension, hindering the country from collaborating peacefully. Conversely, the substantial financial resources allocated to the Olympic Games would be more effective in encouraging global cooperation as it provides a desirable option for nations in need of financial assistance. As a result, the negotiations might transpire in a more conducive environment, facilitating the negotiation for a settlement between the two nations.
