There is a debate whether science should be part of education. While the others are against that statement, many people, including me, are in favor of that statement. Opposite to the latter group that has firm belief that science is one and only way to advance civilization, the former group believes that science is something that is not important due to the fact that ethics play a pivotal role in daily life.
On one hand, science is not important since morality and ethics become priority in reality. As we know, all of the existing ideologies nowadays, such as feminism, liberalism, and individualism, are related to ethics issues which discuss the act of human beings in society. The people who stand in this opinion believe that how to become good in society is more important than discovering something new. Therefore, this group stands with the statement that science should not be taught in education terms. To illustrate, in some southeast Asian countries, which prefer to use eastern culture, such as Indonesia, Thailand, and so on, many people have the perspective that how to respect older people is more important than inventing some equipment for helping the elders which science can do.
On the other hand, many people believe that science has to be included in education due to the fact that science is the one and only way to make this civilization go further. As we know that science combines empirical and rational paradigms which could be examined to find new discoveries that will be useful. In other words, the people who stated that science should be taught in education think that science offers progressivity, which will make this civilization advanced. For instance, in the middle ages, people in Europe assumed that plague comes from mystical things but science changed their perspective to logical perspective.
To encapsulate, many people believe that science should be part of education because of development while the others believe morality is more important to be taught in education. After all, my opinion stands with the first statement.
