Band 6+: Many people argue that students should follow nation traditions, while others claim that they should be free

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Many people believe that students must follow their country’s traditions and rules, while others think that they should be free and have a right to live their life the way they want.

Personally, I think that students should totally be free as it is a basic human right. If students aren’t restricted to do anything they want, in other words, if they have freedom, it could be helpful in having a wider perspective on new and unfamiliar things, open new possibilities and develop personality. This would likely lead to a more developped and advanced society. For example, if a student is strong in art field, but is forced to stay at school and follow its rules, this pupil might lose his talent in drawing art due to a restriction in developping his artistic skills and force to study something he has no interest in. Besides, numerous traditions are considered inappropriate and sometimes extremely strict by a large amout of students in a modern world and the society we live in. For instance, in Arab countries, such as Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Arab Emirates and others, there are several traditions that are viewed as unusual by the students from other cultures. There are many rules that especially apply to women. For example, all women in Saudi Arabia are obligated to wear an abaya and even foreigners are supposed to cover up. In my opinion, this rule does not respect women’s right of choice.

On the the other hand, there are some rules and traditions that must be followed by the students. They differ by nations, and that’s why people should follow them in order to remember their culture, which makes every student unique in his own way. For example, a student must not forget the language, traditions and the culture overall of his/her own country, so it will remain for a long time. In addition, too much freedom could worsen students behaviour, as they do not restrict themselves from doing anything, even law-breaking actions, which could lead to a worse society and a disorganised world overall.

In conclusion, I believe that students should be free, as it provides a development of their unique qualities and talents and does not limit the range of possibilities to improve their skills on something they do enjoy. Although, I do agree that in order not to take advantage of their limitless freedom, students must have limits, so they would not do any immoral acts and result an unhealthy society.
