On the one hand, it is widely believed that girls were more interested in studying foreign languages than boys. In 1964, the percentage was 49% for girls compared to 30% for boys. By 2007, there was only a slight change, as the figures decreased to 40% for girls and 25% for boys.

On the other hand, the top three languages studied by students were French, German, and Spanish. In 1964, the bar chart shows that 50% of students studied French, while 20% learned German.
