The line graph illustrates the number of electronic appliances, namely refrigerators, washing machines, telephones, and televisions, sold in Ghana’s electronic store between 1965 and 2000.
Overall, refrigerators recorded the highest sales throughout the period, while televisions remained the least popular. All four appliances experienced an overall increase, although refrigerators, washing machines and telephones fluctuated considerably.
Refrigerators accounted for the largest figure, starting at 700 units in 1965. In the following years, there were considerable fluctuations, peaking at 990 units in 2000. Washing machines recorded the second-biggest sales, beginning at below 400 units. From 1970 to 1975, these sales increased dramatically from 400 units to 570 units. Sales then remained relatively stable until 1985 at approximately 590 units, before declining to around 530 units in 1995 and subsequently rising sharply to 650 units in 2000.
By contrast, televisions recorded the lowest sales, at close to 50 units in 1965, rising steadily to above 200 units by 2000. Around 400 telephones were sold by Ghana Electric Stores in 1965. However, sales fell to 300 units in 1985, and stood at around 420 units at the end of the period.
